FREEMAN

Sep 27
I am looking for information on Aaron Freeman's ancestors and descendants. I know that he was born in 1745 to John Freeman Jr. in Chowan County. He married Mary Bentley on December 17, 1769 and they lived in Rowan County for some time. He was granted a tavern's license on May 3, 1774 for a tavern located in the forks of Yadkin River. They then moved to Iredell County and were in the census there in 1790 and 1800. In 1810 he appears in the Buncombe County census or so I am told. I am told no will has been found for either of them and that they are buried in unmarked graves at the Freeman Gap Cemetery. I simply do not have all the facts about them so anyone who can help me confirm or deny any of this information would be greatly appreciated. I know I have had several Freeman relatives in NC between the years of 1716-to possibly the present???? I am also looking for any information on my great grandfather Branson Freeman, who was born on August 15, 1871, in Madison County and had a twin brother named Anson. He is in the 1880 census at age 11 and I am told that he went into hiding after "taking the blame" for the shooting of his cousin, Pinkey. Branson (Brant) then moved to Arkansas and changed his name to John Wilson. I know his parents were Robert M. Freeman born 11-28-1839 in Little Pine and his mother was Martha K. Wilson.

When did George Sr. come to NC? Was George Jr. (our relative) or other children, born yet?>BR> Is this George Clayton Jr. (b.?, d. c1814 Iredell) who had a brother Lambert Clayton (b.1755 Dover DE, d. ? Asheville NC), the same George Clayton who had a son Lambert Clingman Clayton (b.8/24/1807, d.1866 Fairview/Arden NC) who is described in "The Heritage of Old Buncombe County, Vol. 1", as being orphaned at a young age, going to live with a brother, working in Old Fort NC, marrying the boss' daughter, Elizabeth Burgin, farming in the Cane Creek Valley of Buncombe Co.
